Position Description:

Duties:      

  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships and promotes good public relationships as a representative of Licking County Government.
  • Functions as a contributing member of the network team fostering an environment of teamwork, collaboration, and innovation by assisting the Senior Network Administrator.
  • Leads network-related projects to ensure platform consistency and provide enhanced security as assigned by Senior Network Administrator or IT Manager; works in conjunction with the Senior Network Administrator and Server Administrator to develop architecture standards and strategy including server consolidation plans.
  • Ensures secure remote access into the network by managing wireless network access and configuring VPN client accounts and software.
  • Ensures secure access into the network by managing the Active Directory user accounts and authentication. Related activities include user account setup; NTFS file security administration and testing, group policy enforcement, development and implementation of login scripts to ensure consistency and data availability, and creation of secured data folders. This also includes interfacing with other critical network services including DNS, DHCP, and SMTP.
  • Adapts, modifies, tests, and implements layered network security policies to ensure the longevity and availability of the network and telecommunications resources (i.e. Anti-virus, anti-spyware, URL Filtering, bandwidth management and conservation, etc). Provides confidential reports relating to employees usage upon the request of the department head or elected official.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs hardware systems (e.g., network equipment, phone equipment, servers, personal computers, etc.) and associated software in county agency/departments; performs diagnostic and support functions on network; investigates and resolves computer hardware/software problems of users; coordinates installations and repairs with supervisor and agency/department designee; visits agency/department locations to perform services on-site
  • Assists in maintain the records of all devices (i.e. laptops, PCs, mobile devices, printers, etc.) that are attached to the business network for detection of rogue devices. Provides support of these devices in a network capacity.
  • Installs, configures, and manages network edge equipment paying particular attention to (VLAN) assignments to enable convergence, (QoS), and routing efficiency between subnets. Applies updates and patches released by the manufacture in accordance with opportunities for scheduled downtime.
  • Monitors network to ensure optimal performance by reviewing information generated by network management software, SNMP logs, hardware logs, and creating reports based on user feedback.
  • Takes preventative measures to ensure critical 24X7 public safety and telecommunications services are available, remains accessible after hours, and takes the necessary action immediately in the event of an outage.
  • Implements business continuity and disaster recovery operations in accordance with adopted policies. Responsibilities include backup and recovery operations, remote site management and creation, and disaster preparedness testing.
  • Implements storage management practices using SAN technology in adherence with documented county records retention policies. These practices include email and file archiving, duplicate file management, backup to disk, forecasting space utilization, and RAID considerations.
  • Generates, modifies, and maintains documentation of configurations, policies, and procedures related to the administration of the county network, security policies, and the remaining areas identified in this document.
  • Acts in a helpdesk support capacity during periods of high demand providing technical assistance to end users; receiving and responding to telephone calls from users experiencing computer hardware, software, networking, and phone issues; talks to users to better understand their issues; takes all necessary steps to resolve the issue, and enters records of every action taken to resolve problem in daily activity log.
  • Serves as backup to both the Senior Network Administrator and Server Administrator during periods of high demand or absences.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures.
  • Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to meet with vendors, collaborate with peers, and attend seminars/training.
Brief Description:

Manages applications, implements policies, and configures hardware for monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and securing the voice and data network.

Job Prerequisites:

Minimum Qualifications:      

Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university; and four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept. Qualifications):

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, network protocols and design concepts. Valid driver’s license.

Compensation:

Salary:           $28.85 - $31.25 per hour
