Position Description:

Duties and Responsibilities of the AmeriCorps Member:

  • Promote, schedule, and present conservation education programs for youth. Recruit partners and volunteers to assist with youth programming.
  • Represent the host agency at community events.
  • Assist with conservation education for teachers and adults.
  • Provide water quality monitoring support including field monitoring/data collection, data entry and analysis, mapping and how-to video creation, water quality report content development, and volunteer recruitment.
  • Contribute to written conservation education efforts.
  • Participate in training as necessary to increase knowledge and gain career networking opportunities.
  • Work with partners and volunteers in conservation demonstration area initiatives including conservation practice maintenance and programming.
  • Complete 2 activity reports monthly, required timesheets and monthly reports in the OnCorps and Beehive online systems.
  • All other duties as assigned within the limitations of this member description.

Job Prerequisites:

Skills and Qualifications: This position requires the ability to work both independently and in a team setting. Excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to work under deadline pressure and the ability to handle multiple tasks are vital to success in this position. Understanding of natural resource conservation issues and concern for improving the environment is necessary. Ability to speak in public settings is required. The ability to work with volunteers is essential. Knowledge of MS Office software packages and general computer skills are required, with experience in database management and GIS preferred.

A Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree of equivalent experience is recommended. AmeriCorps members in this position must possess the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, insects, etc.), be able to carry 40 pounds and to hike over rough terrain. Must have own transportation and valid driver’s license. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but the ability to serve flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is required. Hours may fluctuate, increase or decrease, in consideration of seasonal changes and conservation education and outreach demand.
