Position Description:

The Conservation Educator will promote, schedule and present conservation education programs to diverse audiences including schools PK-12, youth groups, families and adults.   Educational topics will be mission-based and fulfill stormwater education contract requirements. Venues may be in-person and/or via virtual teaching methods in both traditional and non-traditional settings. Additional responsibilities include maintaining education equipment, educational rental items and providing content for newsletters, website, and social media.

The educator will plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of the AmeriCorps Service Member. The position will coordinate and manage the Stream Team volunteers and program, including training, ordering supplies, and collect water quality data.

The Educator will be expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, educators, consultants, the general public, partner agencies and other local, state and federal agencies. The educator will maintain a presence in the community and participate in committee work with community partners. Collaborating with all Soil & Water staff, the educator will coordinate logistics for Soil & Water educational events.

Brief Description:

Join the Soil & Water team as a Conservation Educator managing and enhancing all aspects of educational programming for the District in Licking County.

Job Prerequisites:

Qualifications: Three - five years of experience as an environmental or conservation educator with supervisory experience preferred. Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in environmental education, natural resources management, agriculture or related field); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Certification as a facilitator in some or all of the following: Project WET, Healthy Water/Healthy People, Project WILD, Project Aquatic WILD, Project Learning Tree, Getting Little Feet WET, Growing Up WILD, Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood, or ability to earn certification within one year.

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Google Mail, Calendar and Drive. Experience with social media, online video conferencing platforms, and video/photo editing software is beneficial.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to provide excellent customer service and promote agency mission.

Willingness to perform a combination of office and outdoor work. Ability to traverse uneven terrain in an outdoor environment and ability to carry and transport resource materials and equipment.

Proof of valid Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable.  Must pass a Licking County pre-employment drug screening and federal background security check.
