Position Description:

Duties:      

  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Promotes and maintains positive and effective working relationships and promotes good public relationships as a representative of Licking County Government.
  • Plan, direct, oversee and evaluate the day-to-day operations of the Department. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and Court policies.
  • Assists in compiling all mandatory operational reports to the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
  • Provide leadership, advice and instruction to Department employees and advice and counsel to Judges on probation-related matters.
  • Analyze and evaluate the Department structure, work flow, policies and procedures and develop revisions as needed.
  • Establish goals and priorities for the directly supervised units.
  • Implement, manage and evaluate systems, programs and procedures to achieve goals for the Adult Court Services Department.
  • Develop or approve departmental guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Recruits and screens job applicants. Interviews and hires candidates for employment. Actively involved in employee relations.
  • Ensures assignments are complete, provides training and evaluates employee performance; receives and resolves employee issues according to established guidelines and polices; approves timesheets and leave requests; issues corrective action and discipline as necessary. May seek guidance from Administrator and/or Administrative Judge.
  • Oversee supply needs in the daily operation of the department.
  • Prepare an outline of orientation schedules for new staff.
  • Maintain inventory of employees’ handcuffs ID’s, badges, etc.
  • Ensure distribution of credentials and building access as well as the collection and deletion of these items when an employee departs from employment with the Court.
  • Serve as a representative of the Department and the Court to government entities and community agencies.
  • Attend meetings of department managers and update the Administrator of Adult Court Services and other managers on issues relating to the Department.
  • Investigate and review inquiries and/or complaints concerning subordinate staff.
  • Investigate, review and make recommendations with supervisors as to the handling of issues/problems with staff members.
  • Conduct performance appraisals of subordinate staff.
  • Maintain an open-door policy and accessibility to probation officers and other staff members concerning problems within the Department, in accordance with the chain-of-command.
  • Make recommendations to the Court’s Information Services with regard to Department needs for computer programs and reports.
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in orientation and training programs for Department staff and other court personnel as needed.
  • Participate in and address various units’ staff meetings as needed.
  • Have direct contact with Offenders either by having a small caseload or facilitate a group on a frequent and regular basis.
  • Serve as the Coordinator of the Drug Court, member of the Drug Court Treatment Team and facilitate the Drug Court Introduction Group.
  • Act as the Program Director of the ODRC Grants.
  • As Director, participate in the ongoing review, evaluation and revision of policies and procedures in all departments of the Court.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned by the Administrator of Adult Court Services or the Administrative Judge.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures.
  • Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to attend seminars/training for the purpose of maintaining advanced techniques in probation administration and supervision.
Brief Description:

Provides leadership and direction for theday-to-day operation of Adult Court Services Department. Identifies areas of improvement and recommends changes to the Administrator and/or Administrative Judge.

Job Prerequisites:

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Corrections, Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology or a closely related field; and a minimum of seven (7) years experience as a probation or parole officer, three (3) years of which included supervising other probation officers and some management and administrative responsibilities.

Additional Qualifications (Agency/Dept. Qualifications):

Valid Ohio Driver’s License

In completing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the Court expects the employee will adhere to all Court policies, guidelines, practices and procedures; act as a role model both inside and outside the Court; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and be conscientious about meeting department productivity standards; and communicate regularly with Administrator about department issues.

Compensation:

Salary:                       $65,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on qualifications
