Position Description: |
Primary Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities: - Screen all persons who enter the Newark Municipal Building for weapons or dangerous objects using a magnetometer, hand-held metal detecting wand, and x-ray machine
- Maintain communications with courtroom bailiffs and other security/law enforcement personnel regarding security matters and emergencies utilizing a hand-held radio or telephone
- Control emergency situations at the building entrance and on the third floor, including summoning appropriate assistance from security and/or law enforcement personnel
- Direct the flow of individuals entering and exiting the building in a professional and efficient manner, paying particular attention to any signs of danger
- Conduct searches of persons and property when necessary and warranted
- Prepare written reports of disturbances, emergencies, and accidents
- Conduct searches of the building and grounds of the Newark Municipal Building as part of daily security checks and patrol the building and grounds as necessary
- May be required to assume bailiff duties and other court security assistance for the Licking County Municipal Court
- Will assist in the service of court papers (subpoenas, summonses, etc.) and set outs in eviction proceedings
- Perform duties as required in a timely, accurate, thorough, professional, and appropriate manner
- Obtain and maintain Taser™ certification
- Successfully complete an unarmed subject control training program
- Report to work on time and avoid absenteeism
- Promote and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with co-workers and building employees and promote positive public relations as a representative of the Licking County Municipal Court
- Interact with and maintain a positive and professional relationship with the Law Director’s Office, law enforcement agencies, and community service providers
- Comply with all Licking County Municipal Court policies, practices, and procedures and conduct oneself appropriately while both on-duty and off-duty
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and situations
- Maintain a valid Ohio’s driver’s license
- Perform all other duties as directed by the Administrative Judge

Brief Description: |
Seeking an individual to assist in security screening of persons entering the Newark Municipal Building and patrolling the third floor courtrooms and clerk’s office. Position also entails serving legal papers. Position responsibilities include using both fixed and portable metal detectors; reading scans from x-ray equipment; conducting searches of persons or property. Overriding responsibility is to ensure the safety of court and clerk staff as well as the general public. Must be over 21 years of age, with a minimum of a high school diploma and current OPOTA firearms certification. |

Qaulifications: 1) Minimum education: High School Diploma; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a criminal justice related field preferred 2) Work Experience: One (1) year of experience with court security and/or non-court security involving contact with the general public 3) Minimum Age: Must be at least 21 years of age 4) Operator’s License: Must hold a current, valid Ohio’s driver’s license 5) Certifications: Must hold a current OPOTA firearms certification |

Compensation: |
Salary & Benefits: $43,638.40 - $47,361.60 Annually; benefits including health insurance, paid vacation, and eligibility for Public Employees Retirement System (“PERS”) |
